Is Your Site Mobile Ready?

A huge trend is happening right now when it comes to the Internet! I’ve talked about this before, but it’s so incredibly important that I’m going to talk about it again…and again. Mobile, iPhone, Android, however you want to say it…That’s the future of the Internet and the future is right now!

It’s not true yet, but I suspect this year more people are going to access the Internet using smartphones and other handheld devices than access it via a computer. Coupled with this whole thing is the phenomenon of local search. Want to know how people are going to find your business in the months to come? Sure, many of them will be sitting at a computer, but a huge and growing percentage of them are looking for you through their smartphones.

Here’s the question. When they find you, will they be able to read your site? If you have a smartphone, do this right now. Get on the browser and check out your own site. Unless you’ve made it mobile friendly, or built a whole new mobile site that’s parallel to yours, you’re going to see that your site is very hard to navigate on a phone.

There’s actually a tool you can use to assess the mobile friendliness of your site. Here it is: MobiReady. (I don’t quite agree with all of the findings of this tool. Specifically how it penalizes you for slower loading speeds. But at least it gives you a start at understanding how well your site works on a smartphone.)

So, what’s a good solution to this problem? If your site is built on WordPress, for instance, you can employ a plugin that will make your site mobile friendly. If not, then really the best solution is to build a mobile site that’s parallel to yours. Want to know more? Just contact me. I’ll be happy to talk to you about this.
